Helping people with anxiety problems

About Me
Hi. Thank you for taking the time to have a look at my website. I myself have suffered with anxiety problems in different forms over the years. I know how you are feeling if you are looking at this website for help. Or should I say I know how I felt when I did the same thing as you are doing now, many years ago. I suffered with GAD and OCD and it was learning CBT that helped me recover and lead a normal, productive life. I believe that because of this I find myself in a great position to be able to help you. About five years ago, after volunteering with anxiety charity NO PANIC for two years, I decided to retrain as a CBT therapist and devote my time to helping other people in a situation similar to myself.

I am an accredited professional registrant with the National Counselling Society and I am on the accredited register of the Professional Standards Authority.

I trained at the College of Cognitive Behavioural Therapists (www.cbttherapies.org.uk) where I gained a certificate in counselling and ethics, a diploma, and an advanced diploma in CBT and an advanced diploma  in integrative CBT parts 1 and 2. I then did further training in REBT at the Albert Ellis Institute NYC completing the advanced practicum training programme.

Different areas of anxiety that I treat

General Anxiety Disorder

GAD is characterized by persistent and excessive worry about a number of different things. People with GAD may anticipate disaster and be overly concerned about money, health, family, work, or other issues. Individuals with GAD find it difficult to control their worry. They may worry more than seems warranted about actual events, or may expect the worst even when there is no apparent reason for concern. GAD is diagnosed when a person finds it difficult to control worry on more days than not for at least six months.

OCD

OCD is an anxiety disorder. It has two main parts, obsessions and compulsions. Obsessions are unwelcome thoughts, images, urges, worries or doubts that repeatedly appear in your mind. You can feel very anxious when having these thoughts. Compulsions are repetitive activities that you do to reduce the anxiety caused by the obsessions. It could be repeatedly checking a door is locked, repeating a phrase in your head or checking how your body feels. You can also have the obsessional thoughts without the compulsions.

Please get in touch to arrange an appointment. I welcome clients from across Central London.

Social Anxiety

Social anxiety is a long lasting and overwhelming fear of social situations. It's a common problem that usually starts as a teenager. It can be very distressing and have a big impact on your life. It is more than shyness. It is an intense fear where people feel overly worried before, during and after a social situation. You may have social anxiety if you dread many everyday activities, avoid social events, excessively worry what people think of you or find it difficult to do things if people are watching fearing negative judgement or criticism.

Panic Disorder

When panic attacks happen for no reason or apparent trigger this could be panic disorder. People often feel fine one minute, then totally out of control and in the grips of a panic attack the next. They produce real physical symptoms which are very unpleasant and the accompanying psychological thoughts of terror can make a panic attack a very scary experience. For people experiencing panic attacks they start to dread the next attack and quickly enter a state where they live in a constant state of fear.

Health Anxiety

Health anxiety is a common anxiety problem. Those affected by health anxiety have an obsessional preoccupation with the idea that they are currently, or will be experiencing a physical illness. The most common health anxieties tend to centre on severe conditions like cancer, MS, HIV, brain tumors etc, however it could be anything. People are convinced that harmless physical symptoms are indicators of serious disease. They often don't accept a doctor's diagnosis, carry out constant self-examinations, and become distressed that they are preoccupied with their health.

Also....

I am also able to help with many other areas as they all respond well to CBT. I can help with phobias, cravings, fixations, confidence building, exam nerves, presentation anxiety, alcohol and substance misuse, jealousy and envy amongst others.
